Fiona Robertson

My drawings and paintings have evolved over many years from my fascination with wild and unruly corners of the British landscape; places that combine extraordinary land-forms with the traces of past human activity.

Whether experienced on foot or by bike, I’ve always had the urge to register my immediate memories of these explorations in line, shape and tone. Colour acts as a point of reference, a memory of location, a symbol of discovery.

These marks create their own calligraphy; mapping my journeys through shady coombes and deeply cut holloways to curving hilltops and the remnants of ancient settlements.

Though I’ve no formal art training, I’ve always made art.  I combine my studio practice with part-time work advising on the visual arts in schools. I live in Langport.
