Mayumi Kaneko

My interest in textile goes back to 1976 when I worked in a Kimono design studio in Tokyo, Japan.
It was a great opportunity to become of aware the beauty of Japanese traditional design as well as an appreciation of
colour. Although it was a brief experience the interest has lasted ever since.

I came to England in 2003. I have taken the chance to learn weaving, spinning and dyeing at the Frome Textile Workshop and at the Adult learning class in Wells as well as some other workshops. I joined Wiltershire Weaving, Spinning and Dyeing Guild in 2006. Now I’m taking a textile course at Bath Spa University. Through these activities I have learned the concept of surface design and developing my technical skill.

My work has been shown in some exhibitions.

To create textile that touches your heart would be my destination.
