Colin Gosden - Woodturner

Colin sells his work through galleries, exhibitions and by commissions and his work is in collections both at home and abroad.

Combination of form and/or texture is the principle motivation behind most of his work. He likes to use timber that has natural damage or honest ‘faults’ that can be combined with sound material to achieve both visual and tactile interest. He also uses colour, applied in both opaque form or in layered glazes, to extend the potential of the material.

Eccentric, or off centre turning plays a major role in his working methods. Eccentric forms are designed to be unstable, this allows them to wobble or roll if disturbed. When static, these pieces settle asymmetrically due to uneven distribution of weight, and some contain loose items in order to enhance the theme.

Clocks form quite a large part of his output as Colin enjoys the challenge of creating interesting forms in combination with functional objects.
