Elaine CollettElaine Collett is a painter whose practice explores colour and the physical materiality of paint, she works primarily in acrylic but also in oil and mixed media. Her practice is informed by an appreciation of painterly tradition and contemporary issues resulting in work that is usually abstract and responds directly to personal perceptions of landscape and environment; the rural, the urban and the interaction and influence of humanity on both. Recent work has explored Green within the rural environment, paintings that seek to embody feeling in their orchestration of colour, distillations of memory and experience, the intention of which is to evoke resonance, recognition and contemplation. Elaine trained at The University of Reading and Goldsmiths College and taught in several secondary schools, ultimately as Head of Department. She has lived in North Dorset since 1986, focusing for some years on family. Since 2000 she has returned to painting, exhibiting with Sherborne Contemporary Arts and in many selected group shows in the South West. She completed an MA in Fine Art at The Arts Institute at Bournemouth in 2007 and continues to teach as an art tutor for Dorset Adult Learning and runs drawing, painting and printmaking classes and workshops for adults. |
